ABA District 53 held the last 2 one day events of the 2010 season May 1 and 2 on Toledo Bend. Travis Merritt of Iowa, LA won both events to finish the season strong going into the two district championship on Sam Rayburn May 29 & 30.

BIG BAGS for the season opener on the Calcasieu River!
The first event of the 2010 Up and Coming Afternoon Bass Tournaments on the Calcasieu River saw some nice fish brought to the scales. There were five bags weighed in over 8 pounds Tuesday night at Parkside Marina despite the rain and cold conditions.
Kevin Booty brought a bag of bass weighing 10.76 to the stage to win the first tournament of the year. Sean "Yogurt" Meche and Johnny Watkins' 10.49 bag, which would normally win any tournament on the river, was only good enough for second. Watkins and Meche also won the Fontenont and Fontenot Big Bass of the tournament award with a 5.14 bass. Chris Chandler and his wife Tonya took third place with a 8.84 lbs sack. Team Chandler's bag was anchored by a 3.34 bass caught by Tonya.

Galen Bennett won the ABA District 45 2 day Championship on Toledo Bend Feb. 6 & 7. Galen finished the tournament with a 2 day total of 25.67. Bennett reported catching his fish on spinnerbaits both days. Galen, a longtime ABA fisherman and local business owner, won $730.00 and a rod from American Rodsmiths for his victory. Second place went to Darold Gleason with 23.79 while Travis Merritt took 3rd place honors with 18.51. Eric Wade caught the American Rodsmith's Big Bass of the tournament which tipped the scales at 6.93.
Congratulations to Darold Gleason for winning Angler of the Year in ABA District 45. Gleason highlighted his Angler of the Year season with a win at Rayburn on 1-22-09 and two 2nd place finishes. Darold is now qualified to fish for the ABA National AOY at Kentucky Lake in October. Gleason also won a rod from American Rodsmiths, Yamalube from the Yamaha Shop of Lake Charles, a free nights stay at Pirates Cove Marina, a guided fishing trip with Butch "The Fish Whisper" Perrodin, baits from Gary Yamamoto, and a $50.00 gift certificate to American Rodsmiths. Eric Wade finished second in the AOY race and Travis Merritt finished third.

The Tuesday Afternoon Bass Tournaments on the Calcasieu River will begin on Tuesday March 16, 2010 at Parkside Marina. Registration will begin at ~4:15 PM and the tournament will start at 5:00 PM. Entry Fees will be $45 per team which includes entry fees, launch fee, and trash fish pot.
The Wednesday Afternoon Bass Tournaments in Hayes will begin on Wednesday March 17 at Aucoin's in Hayes. Registration will begin at ~4:00 PM and boats will leave the ramp at 5:00 PM. Entry Fees will be $40.00 per team.
